This letter combination represents three sounds depending on their position.

1. It is /u/ when at the end of a word:
E.g.
blue, clue, due, rue, sue, true
hue -> h̃ue

2. It is /uə/ at the end of some words derived from Latin/French:
E.g.
affluent, affluence, influence, congruent, congruence, confluence

3. It is /wə/ when it follows the letter q:
E.g.
sequent, sequence -> siquent, siquence
consequent, consequence -> consiquent, consiquence
subsequent, subsequence -> subsiquent, subsiquence
eloquent, eloquence
